Some Facts About Spiders

Little Miss Muffet of the nursery rhyme really existed. She was the daughter of Dr Mouffet who believed spiders had healing powers when eaten.

Native Americans used to do a lot of weaving, but they would pull out the last threads on the cloth so as not to allow themselves to get too obsessed with perfection, unlike the spider in a myth who then died of exhaustion.

 

Arachnid is the Greek word for spider. It comes from an old Greek legend. The Greek goddess Athena turned Arachnae's body into a spider after she lost a weaving competition.

There are several endangered spiders, some of which have not even been discovered yet.
